Night

I really liked that you chose this text as one for us to read for this class because of how commonly Holocaust texts are used in curriculum in the United States. This text is also used in tandem with other Holocaust texts. Gressa and I are completing our unit plan using this text in addition to 5 others.  For this reason, I have many different ideas on how this book could be taught. I would suggest the literature circle route because then students could read a book at their grade level and choose one based on their own interests and connections.
There is also an astounding amount of Holocaust teaching ideas about all texts that relates to the Holocaust. There are so many engaging ways that you can include when teaching this text. For example, the Holocaust museum in Seattle has a trunk that they will send you with Holocaust artifacts that you can have your students write on.
Aside from interesting activities, there are also many discussions that you can have with students that can make the Holocaust a relevant event that students can connect to. This novel allows for students to discuss the consequences of being a bystander. I also like the main theme that we chose to concentrate on in this unit which is "finding light in darkness."
Essentially, I cannot even begin to talk about all of the way in which you can present this book to students because there are so many ways which is why I think that it will be a great text to use in the classroom.
Wow, that was my final blog post. Crazy. I would just like to say that I loved this experience! By writing a blog post before class the next day it gave me something to say about a text when I wouldn't have had an opinion otherwise. Thanks for showing me how a blog could be the main hub for a class because I truly think that it will be something that I try and implement into my classroom.
